This morning I came across a funny twitter exchange between Rasul Douglas and Adrian Amos. With Adrian Amos still a free agent it looks like Rasul Douglas is doing his best to get Amos back to Green Bay.
Here’s how it started.
Most of you have probably already heard but now NFL players can wear the #0. Adrian Amos didn’t respond to that tweet so Rasul had another go at it 😂
This time he got Adrian’s attention.
Rasul confirmed that he is not messing around
Amos seemed to get a good laugh out of it
And here’s how it ended
Rasul and Adrian have clearly built a solid friendship over their time together in the DB room in Green Bay.
So far it seems like Adrian Amos isn’t going to return to Green Bay. He hasn’t signed with another team yet which means the door is still technically open. Amos was a solid starter over his 4 years in Green Bay starting in all 66 games.
He’s been one of the most sure tacklers on the Packers defense over the years, but he did take a step back this past season in coverage. He allowed a 123.8 passer rating in 2022 compared to 95.7 in 2021 and 71.7 in 2020. He also will be 30 years old when the 2023 season begins. I’m guessing that the Packers may not be willing to pay what he’s worth. I never want to see any player go but at the end of the day it is a business.
I honestly think if Aaron Rodgers ended up returning to Green Bay Adrian Amos wouldv’e had a higher likelihood of getting a new contract with the Packers.
I’m guessing they would have liked to keep more of the core veteran players around. If Rodgers was back in 2023 you have to keep key guys around that make up the culture of the team.
With Amos likely departing the Packers have some question marks at safety. Darnell Savage had a down year in 2022 but will be back on his 5th year option. We also are bringing back Rudy Ford who had some nice moments in 2022. I’m assuming the Packers target safety at some point in the draft because it is 100% a position of need.
