Packers Q&A! Packers QB Plan, Thoughts on Matt Lafleur, Top 10 draft pick?
Hello everybody. It has been a while since I last wrote something here. I’ve mainly been focused on the videos I make on youtube but today I decided that I wanted to answer many of the different questions I’ve been asked the past few days.
“How many games do you think Jordan Love will play the rest of the season?” (brayden2197)
It all depends on what happens for the Packers in the next couple weeks. If Aaron Rodgers is healthy enough to play and the Packers are still in playoff contention they are going to stick with Aaron Rodgers which is 100% the right move. If the Packers are eliminated from playoff contention in the next couple weeks I believe they will move to Jordan. Aaron recently stated that he is open to having the conversation about potentially making a change if they are eliminated from playoff contention.
There is no telling what Aaron Rodgers wants to do when it pertains to playing or not playing for the Packers in 2023. If the Packers knew for a fact Aaron was going to be back in 2023 it may make sense to keep him as the starter so that he could continue to build chemistry with the young rookie receivers. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have only had about 50 snaps on the field together because of the different injuries they have been dealing with throughout the season. Even if the games to end the season didn’t mean anything for this year it couldn’t hurt to get more reps with the young receivers. The thing is, Rodgers could decide to retire.
With Aaron Rodgers retirement as a possibility you would have to assume Brian Gutekunst wants to see more of Jordan Love before he has to decide whether or not to exercise his 5th year option this offseason. He probably already has an idea of what he is going to do because they see what Jordan Love does every single day at practice. But live gameplay is much different than practice reps. So my final answer for how many games we will see of Jordan Love this year is it’s very hard to know.
“Do you think they rigged this season to set up Love for next year? Last dance and all” (danielroberts606)
Haha no. If they wanted the Packers to play poor this year so that they could move onto Love it makes zero sense why they would give Aaron Rodgers a massive contract before the season.
“Is Matt LaFleur on the hot seat? Especially since he refuses to move on from Barry his buddy? Seems like Lafleur gave up on the season weeks ago and is just waiting till off season to try to improve the team for next year.” (superedge99)
Absolutely not. Matt Lafleur was one of the winningest coaches in his first 3 seasons and I don’t think that one bad year should mean moving on. Yes he has had Aaron Rodgers which is a big reason for his success but there are lots of coaches in the past who have had elite QB’s. Matt Lafleur is a great coach. The Packers knew there would be growing pains on offense but with Christian Watson finally breaking through there is lots of reason to be hopeful for the offense. It seems to me that the players respect him as a coach and that is valuable. If he doesn’t move on from Joe Barry this off-season I would be shocked. A change has to be made on the defensive side of the ball. It was supposed to be our strength this year and it has turned into our weakness. I think he will fire Joe Barry this offseason.
“Do you think this is rock bottom for the Packers? Can things only go up from here?” (hope3894)
This season started with hope for a superbowl and over the past couple months the reality of what the Packers really have this year has set in. The first couple losses felt like it may just be a small blip on the radar but it has turned into a poor season overall. Technically the Packers could win the next 5 and finish at 9-8 with a potential chance to make the playoffs but the chances of that happening are very unlikely based on the teams performance this year. It does feel like rock bottom. Let’s hope this team can bounce back next year and get out of this rut.
“If the Packers end up with a top 10 Pick will we Draft a WR even though how good Christian Watson has been playing lately or will we draft something else and what should that be.” (masonlaube9681)
My guess is no. But you can never have too many weapons. I’d be fine if they did but if the Packers have shown us anything it’s that they don’t feel the need to draft wide receivers in the first round. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs are a perfect example of that. I haven’t thought too much about the draft yet for the Packers but you could get a very good defensive lineman with that pick which could really help bolster this defense. Before the season started it felt like we would have one of the best Dlines in the NFL but that did not happen. Devonte Wyatt hasn’t played much but many coaches have stated that it takes a longer time for defensive lineman to develop. You can also never have too many talented offensive lineman so that could also make sense.
“Do you think we need an owner? And Hypothetically do you think that Rodgers would have more rings if we did have an owner? We’ve been known to sit on our hands in a lot of different ways over the past few decades. I feel like a real owner would not have the patience to constantly be planning for the future and waiting to see how things just “play out” when the greatest qb of all time is CURRENTLY on the roster. What’s your take on that? Ps congrats on the growth. Big fan. Gopackgo” (Dionsantiago)
I appreciate that Dion. I don’t think that we need an owner. Itt could go both ways. Sure It would be nice to have someone more willing to pull the trigger but at the same time having a patient organization isn’t a bad thing. As a fan I am always hoping that the Packers make a big move but at the same time it is important to look years in advance to make sure everything is planned out well.
Over the years the Packers were moments away from reaching the super bowl. Unfortunately many of the teams didn’t play up to their potential in key playoff scenarios.
Plus it would all depend on the owner. Some owners are patient and some are impatient. Maybe the Packers would have more rings but who knows.
Thank you for reading! If you enjoyed this I would love it if you would share it with one Packers fan who you think may enjoy it. Go pack go!
