Packers Q&A! Is it Superbowl Or Bust For The Packers This Year?
Answering your biggest questions about the Packers
Goodmorning all of my fellow die hard Packers fans. I hope all of you are doing amazing. Yesterday I asked for you guys to send me questions you currently have about the Packers. I just got myself a cup of coffee and I’m ready to answer.
“Last season was a do or die situation, somehow, someway, we the organization, extended this by one more year. Is this season more than Superbowl or Bust? Superbowl or absolute everlasting failure?” (The Patriarchy)
Ultimate success for the Packers this year and every year is winning the Superbowl. There is no doubt that the Packers have done everything possible to keep the Superbowl window open. This 100% hinged on the return of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay in 2022. It’s honestly wild to think that earlier this off-season we didn’t know if Rodgers was going to retire or potentially end up on another team. The rumors of Rodgers to Denver made lots of sense considering Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hacket accepted the coaching job in Denver.
Luckily for us Packers fans Rodgers decided to return. When Aaron Rodgers is your quarterback you always have a shot at the superbowl. Time is ticking on Aaron Rodgers career. This could be his last season. He says that he doesn’t know when he will hang it up but it will likely be a decision he reconsiders at the end of the year. It hurt to lose Davante Adams but there was not much more the Packers could have done. He wanted to leave. Brian Gutekunst has done as much as he can to fill the hole Davante left to give the Packers a chance to stay competitive.
Do I think that if Aaron Rodgers retires everything is doomed and the Packers will be an “everlasting failiure?” Definitely not. The Packers have one of the best young defenses in the NFL. Jaire just signed a new contract. Eric Stokes is still only in his second year. De’vondre Campbell is just starting his 5 year deal. Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt are rookies. If this team didn’t have Rodgers I believe that we would still be competitive because of our defensive prowess.
However lots of this would hinge on the play of Jordan Love. Will Jordan Love become Aaron Rodgers? Most likely not. I still think it’s too early to give up on Love. Players take time to develop and grow. Yes he has been inconsitent but that is to be expected of a guy who barely gets playing time. I want to see a year of Jordan Love playing before I’m willing count him out. With the defense Brian Gutelunst has built we don’t need Jordan Love to be Aaron Rodgers. Jimmy Garrappolo has taken his team deep in the playoffs multiple times and he’s not a top 10 QB in the NFL. Jordan Love could thrive in Matt Lafluer’s system as a game manager. He doesn’t need to do it all.
So to sum up my answer: The packers chances to win a superbowl are much higher with Aaron Rodgers, but they aren’t zero without him. If we don’t win this year there is still hope. I am a very optimistic person so take from that as you wish haha.
“Do you think the Packers keep 8 receivers?” (S Nelson)
My prediction is that the Packers will keep 7 receivers. Over the past four years we’ve seen them keep as little as 5 and as many as 8. Here are the receivers I think will make the cut: Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Juwann Winfree.
Rodgers praised Sammy Watkins after yesterdays practice and sounded confident saying that Sammy is one of the top options being a veteran.
Rodgers also critisized the mental mistakes being made by the young players. It’s expecetd for them to be making mistakes this early but things need to get cleaned up as the season starts. Amari Rodgers looked much more explosive in the Packer’s first pre season game and Juwann Winfree made some nice plays as well. Samori Toure and Danny Davis have played well but unfortunately we can’t keep everyone. Of course I could be wrong. We will find out soon.
“Name 3 players you have been impressed with in camp.” (Andruw Paden)
WR Romeo Doubs- It’s amazing to see how dominant he’s been considering he was drafted in the 4th round. His route running skills are next level. He knows how to get open. There have been some mental mistakes and dropped balls but I think that is something to be expected from a young player in his first training camp. He is still getting down the playbook and the more reps he gets the more confident he will become.
RB Tyler Goodson- If you watched the Packers first pre season game vs the 49ers you saw just how explosive and elusive Tyler Goodson is. He has great vision and can change direction in an instant. He doesn’t seem like the kind of back who will run you over but when he gets the ball in space watch out. The Packers 3rd running back spot is still up for grabs with Kylin Hill still on the PUP list dealing with the ACL tear he suffered last season. The Packers recently cut RB BJ Baylor who showed some promise. Goodson will have to beat out Patrick Taylor and Dexter Williams but I think he’s got a shot.
DL Jack Heflin & Chris Slayton- Okay I know you asked for 3 but I figured I would pair these two guys together. They both played very well in the Packers first pre season game. They were constantly disrupting the offensive line and making plays in the backfield. The Packers D line is deep. We already have Kenny Clark, Jarran Reed, Dean Lowry, TJ Slaton, and Devonte Wyatt so one of these guys may not make the final cut. Having too much talent is a great problem to have. Actually it isn’t a problem at all.
There are definitely a lot more guys I could have mentioned here but I wanted to give a mix of guys being talked up a lot and a couple guys who may be a little under the rader.
“Walking through a dark alley, which player on the defense is your sidekick lol? I pick Rashan.” (Derrick Daniels)
This is a great question. I say Eric Stokes becuase all I would have to do is jump in his arms and he could out run anyone.
“Will The Packers bring back Kurt [Benkert]?” (Corey Johnson)
Hey Corey. Thanks for the question. It was sad to see Kurt Benkert get released. He was definitely a fan favorite here in Green Bay. Becuase they decided to keep QB Danny Etling instead of Kurt I just don’t see why they would bring him back. It’s very likely that the Packers only keep Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love on the roster so Etling will probably end up on the practice squad. I would love to see Kurt make a return but I don’t think it will happen.
“You think Aaron Rodgers brought back QB coach [Tom Clements] to help jordan love and the green bay packers?” (Osker Hernandez)
Yes I do. In a recent press conference Aaron Rodgers speaks about this. He said that early in the off-season he talked with Matt Lafleur and said that if he wants to bring in a guy who can really help with fundamentals QB coach Tom Clements is the guy. Mike McCarthy brought Tom Clements into Green Bay in 2006 and he stayed in Green Bay till 2017.
Rodgers credits lots of his success to the things he learned from Clements early in his career. This is huge for Jordan Love. Rodgers praised Jordan Love’s progression in decision making and the way that he sets his feet. Aaron Rodgers seems to be higher on Jordan Love than most fans.
“Is Romeo Doubs manna from heaven?” (Jacob Lesperance)
100%. The Isrealites didn’t know where their next meal would come from and we didn’t know where our next receiver would come from. Now we know. Nevada. Romeo Doubs may be one of the drafts biggest steals. We will need to see him play well this season to know that for a fact, but so far he’s looking the part.
Speaking of faith I’ve heard Romeo Doubs in interviews multiple times mention his faith in God which I admire.
“Do you think cutting Dominique Dafney was a good move?” (Dylosophy)
I think so. It’s tough becuase he was a solid player and it’s never fun to see a player get cut. This just means to me that the Packers are confident in the other tight ends they have in the room. Robert Tonyan just got taken off of the PUP list in the past week so this could mean he may be ready to start the season. Maybe. It seems that Robert Tonyan, Josiah Deguara, Marcedes Lewis, and Tyler Davis were higher on the depth chart than Dafney.

I agree with everything except I'm not so high on Love
I believe Love can be a very good NFL QB. Needs to clean up his footwork but his decision making is much improved and he definitely has the skills. Needs to play to improve.
