Packers Q&A! Are we being too optimistic about the rookie receivers?
Answering your questions on Rodgers Vs Brady, Packers receivers, my favorite player, chances at a super bowl, + random thoughts
We are getting closer and closer to the start of the NFL season. You can feel the excitement in the air.
There’s nothing like football season. The weather starts to cool down. The leaves begin to change. I’m just excited that I will no longer have to suffer through consistent 100 degree days down here in Texas. I can go outside and not feel like I am going to die. That’s a plus.
Last week I did my first Packers Q&A on this site. I really enjoyed answering lots of your questions so I decided I wanted to do it again. I think I’ll make this a regular thing. You guys left 40 questions for me on my youtube channel. I will not be able to get to all of them but I will get to as many as I can.
“Do you think we are being too optimistic for our rookie receivers? Do you think Rodgers and Cobbs public comments saying they need people they can trust are a way for them to get another FA WR?” (Were it so Easy)
I think when we ask the question of if we are being too optimistic we have to look at each receiver individually. Romeo Doubs has shown that he can consistently get open and make wow plays. He’s had some issues with drops but he doesn’t let that slow him down. There is no doubt in my mind that Romeo Doubs is going to be a big part of this offense even in his first season. There is much more opportunity for the rookie receivers than there ever has been in years past because Davante Adams left hundreds of targets up for grabs.
Now onto Christian Watson. The moment we drafted him I lost my mind (in a good way). If you watch my youtube channel you saw just how excited I was when we drafted Christian. He’s such an insane athlete who has the size and speed to be a massive problem for defenses in the NFL. Unfortunately for him he’s missed most of training camp because of his knee injury. It is going to be much harder for him now because he hasn’t had the time to build chemistry with Aaron Rodgers like Romeo Doubs has. That’s not to say he won’t, but he is a little behind.
Packers 7th round draft pick Samori Toure has made some nice plays but I don’t see him being that much of a factor his first season. There are lots of guys ahead of him on the depth chart.
Rodgers and Cobbs comments about the young receivers needing to step up has nothing to do with them signaling that they want a free agent wide receiver (in my opinion). They are just letting the rookies know that there is an expectation for where they need to be if they want to be a part of the offense. Aaron Rodgers has high standards as he should. I think they are just pushing those guys to be great.
“This is not even a question. I just hope that the Special teams don't choke this year.” (Kevin-Joseph Cruz)
Haha don’t we all! Let’s hope Rich Bisaccia is taking care of that. I’m trying to forget about the big returns they allowed last preseason game. If I forget about it then it didn’t happen.
“Are we going all the way this year scoop and how are we looking this year really just your opinion on the packers possibility of getting it done this year be honest with me. GO PACK GO” (Tavis Jones)
Every year that Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback we’ve got a shot at going all the way. We see year after year that the Packers are one of the better teams in the league. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to finish it since 2011 but we are almost always in the mix. What’s giving me lots of hope is my belief that we have one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Packers last two superbowl wins (1997 and 2011) featured a team with one of the best defenses in the NFL. I think we can go all the way.
“Favorite Packer player of all time? Mine, #92 Reggie White.” (Bud)
I’d have to go with Brett Favre. I was born in 1997 so some of my earliest memories were of watching Brett Favre sling it on Sundays. When I was 5 or 6 the first jersey my mom bought me was a Brett Favre jersey. I wore it till the number started to fall off. When I was in highschool I had the opportunity to meet Brett Favre and catch a pass from him which was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had. He’s a legend.
“Will Tyler Davis make the 53 man roster???” (Goosby Goosby)
If you would have asked me earlier in the off-season I would have definitely said yes. Brian Gutekunst seemed confident in his potential. In the Packers first two preseason games he has really struggled. In the first game a ball bounced off of his hands leading to a Jordan Love interception. Last week he had a holding penalty that took away a nice play from Jordan Love to Amari Rodgers. He also lost a fumble. Robert Tonyan is also close to getting back so Davis may not make the roster. We will find out in 8 days when the Packers have to cut the roster down to 53.
“You think the Packers going to beat Tom Brady and the buccaneers this year?” (Ben Collison)
I am a Tom Brady respector. He is the GOAT. Aaron Rodgers is more talented. But it’s hard to argue with GOAT status when a player has 7 super bowls. I was happy for Tom Brady when he retired. You had a great run Tom. But he decided to come back…
The Packers will travel to Tampa Bay in Week 3 to take on the Buccaneers. It could be the last time we witness a Tom Brady Vs Aaron Rodgers battle (unless they meet in the playoffs which could easily happen). This game will be close. It’s never easy to stop a Tom Brady led offense but if anyone can do it this Packers defense can. The game could very well come down to who has the ball in their hands last. Give me the Packers in this one.
“Who do u think will start next to Kenny Clark?” (Andy S)
I think the Packers starting D line in week one will be Kenny Clark, Jarran Reed, and Dean Lowry. All veterans who have lots of experience and know what they are supposed to do.
When Devonte Wyatt was drafted in the first round I thought there may be a chance for him to be a starter, but right now that is not looking likely. Wyatt hasn’t been playing with the ones and it looks like he has a ways to go before he is able to start on the Packers defensive line. He missed the first preseason game and in last week’s game vs the Saints he was the 2nd worst graded defensive player according to PFF with a 29.7 grade. I am hopeful for what he is going to become in the future but I don’t think he will start week one.
The Packers defensive line is one of the deepest we’ve seen in years. TJ Slaton is looking like a monster out there and Jack Heflin and Chris Slayton are making lots of great plays.
“With Jenkins and Bak, off the injury list, could the Packers have a top tier running game?” (Jon Deux)
100% yes. Even without those guys I think we would have a top tier running game. The combo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon is deadly. Give me these two running backs over any other backfield in the NFL. They are that good.
If your offensive line can’t create running lanes for your backs that is a problem. Because Brian Gutekunst loves to constantly restock the Packers offensive line room through the draft there are always talented young lineman the Packers can rely on. Even without Jenkins and Bakh the Packers have enough offensive line talent to get the job done.
But a fully healthy Elgton Jenkins and David Bakhtiari is a game changer. They are two of the best offensive lineman in the league. When they are both out there fully healthy there is no limit to how dominant the Packers running game can be.
Random Thoughts (why i’ve started writing)
I recently made the decision to start writing about the Packers on this site. I actually created it a year ago but only wrote one article. These past couple weeks as I’ve started to write I’ve realized just how much I love it. When I was in highschool I had to write all the time and it wasn’t something that I loved doing. It wasn’t until I started writing a weekly blog during a gap year I took after highschool where I travled to Philadelphia, the Middle East, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania that I realized I loved to write. When I’m passionate about something I love to write about it.
I actually wrote a few fantasy football articles for this random site about 7 or 8 years ago while I was in highschool. I think the site is now gone. That was probably my first shot at putting something out there into the world that other people could see. I don’t know if anyone read it (besides my mom).
I’m someone who always loves to try new things. I’ll give something a shot and see if I enjoy it. If I don’t, I can just move on. If I love it, I can keep it going. That’s how I am approaching this as well.
I am excited to see where this goes. If you are someone who has subscribed to receive these emails to your inbox I just want to let you know I am very grateful for your support. It means a lot. As I continue to write I hope that I can grow and create better and better content as time goes on.
I hope you have an amazing day and thank you for reading! Go pack go.
Thanks for the "scoop", Luke. You do an awesome job and I always look forward to reading what you have to say. The D is going to be huge for the Pack this year. GoPackGo!
