This morning Packers president Mark Murphy is about to begin the team’s yearly bus tour in Wisconsin. Before he hopped on the bus he was asked questions regarding the Packers and jets trade Talks. He didn’t have much to say and you can tell that he was very careful with his words. Here are the questions he was asked and his response to each question.
Reporter: “Is the ball essentially in their court? Like you’ve said this is what we want, either A,B,C, or D and you’re kind of waiting for them to…?”
Mark Murphy: “Yeah, I can’t really get into that. I know Brian and Joe have been talking.”
Reporter: “Are you expecting lots of questions on this tour and how do you plan handling those?”
Mark Murphy: “I do anticipate questions and I anticipate saying that there’s no update. It is interesting, 15 years ago similar situation.”
Reporter: “Do you need a deal to get done before the draft or are you guys okay going into the summer if that’s what it takes?”
Mark Murphy: “Again that is something Brian is working on. I’ve been actively involved. There’s really nothing more to say.”
Finally when asked about what he can he learned from his first tailgate tour and what he can apply now from what he learned his first year in charge he responded, “Well I’m really glad that Aaron Rodgers turned out to be such a good quarterback, and I’m hopeful that Jordan Love turns out to be a similar quarterback.”
So the update from Mark Murphy is that there is in fact no update.
Since Rodgers stated that he intended to play for the Jets nothing has happened. There is speculation about why it’s taking so long for a deal to get done. Are they still not on the same page when it comes to compensation? This is one possibilty. Reports have been that the Packers want more than the Jets have been willing to offer. Is this true? Who really nows. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst and Jets GM Joe Douglas could be having phone conversations that no one else knows about.
There are many theories floating around and one that I came across on reddit is that a deal is actually already agreed to and it will come down to draft day. I covered this theory on my youtube channel yesterday. It honestly makes lots of sense. The Jets have sounded incredibly confident that Rodgers will be their QB. It’s possible that there could be a couple potential trades in place depending on how the draft goes and which players are available.
Regardless, we still don’t know for sure when this trade will get done. All of us fans are waiting and we could be waiting for a little while longer. Mark Murphy still sounds confident that Jordan Love will be the starting QB for the Packers in 2023 so odds are this trade is still 100% going to happen, the question is when.
