For those of you who may be new here or haven’t heard how I got started talking about the Packers online, I wanted to share a little background before I get into today’s mailbag.
I’ve always been a die-hard Packers fan even though I was born in Texas. My mom grew up in Wisconsin and raised me as a Packers fan for as long as I can remember. Thank goodness I’m not a Cowboys fan.
I remember being 4 or 5 years old sitting in front of the TV watching Brett Favre sling it all around the field. From a young age there was nothing I loved more than watching the Packers on Sundays.
Back in May of 2020 I was contemplating what I wanted to do with my life. After praying about it I made the decision that I would start making videos on the NFL. The first few videos on my youtube channel were about fantasy football. After a couple weeks I made a few Packers videos and decided that’s what I wanted the sole focus of my channel to be. Talking Packers football.
I made a decision to make a video every weekday until it started to pick up steam. It took a long time. I posted 87 videos to get my first 100 youtube subscribers. I kept trucking away and luckily by the end of the season I had around 2,500 subscribers. It’s been a fun journey and now I’m grateful that we’ve been able to reach around 27,000 subscribers on youtube.
Around 2 years ago I created this newsletter. It wasn’t until about 1 year ago that I started to write somewhat consistently. Now I’ve sent out 151 newsletters on the Packers and we’re getting close to 1,000 subscribers. We are 51 away.
I use a service called substack which doesn’t run ads. The whole goal of their company is to give writers a place where their own subscribers support their work for a small monthly fee. That way they’re able to not worry about sponsors or ads and just spend their time doing what they love, writing. Plus readers don’t have to deal with constant pop ups stealing their attention away from what they’re reading.
Up to this point I’ve kept everything free because I wanted to make sure that I was committed to writing and now I know that it’s something I truly enjoy doing.
All of the work that I do on youtube and writing this newsletter is solely independent. I’ve always wanted to work for myself and I’m grateful that over the past couple years I’ve been able to do that on youtube.
I’m always trying to think of new ways to grow revenue with my independent sports media business so that I can continue to have the time to create Packers content and stay up to date on all the news. I’ve now made the decision to make some of my Packers newsletters paid and some free. My goal is to continue to be able to do this full time and the reality is that I have to find ways to monetize the work that I’m doing.
If you’d like to support the work that I do you are welcome to become a paid newsletter subscriber, for the cost of a cup of coffee each month! Throughout the week I will post both paid and free newsletters. For those who choose to become paid subscribers I want you to know I am very grateful. To all of you, I wouldn’t be able to do any of this if it weren’t for your support. Thank you!
