Packers Cuts That Surprised Me The Most, WR Prediction, Top 5 defense? Packers Q&A!
Time to answer your questions.
The NFL preseason is now over and teams around the league have finalized their 53 man rosters. All of the training camp battles have come to a close and hundreds of NFL hopefuls got cut (many returned to the practice squad).
It’s crazy to think that we only have one more Sunday without NFL football. The months and months of waiting are finally coming to an end.
Now it is time to answer your questions about the Packers.
“Is it my imagination or does the wide receiver room have huge potential?” Jon Deux
There is this belief from many around the NFL that the Packers have one of the worst receiving corps in the NFL. Even when we had the greatest wide receiver in the NFL in Davante Adams people were calling for the Packers to give Aaron Rodgers more weapons. So I’m not surprised that many people are doubting this unit.
Brian Gutekunst went all in on wideouts this offseason picking up Sammy Watkins and adding 3 wide receivers in the draft. This wide receiver room is full of massive potential. The question really is which of these guys are going to live up to their potential? Romeo Doubs has been the highlight of the preseason. I predict his success continues going into the season. We haven’t even seen what Christian Watson is capable of and Samori Toure shined in his final preseason game which gave him the 7th wide receiver spot over Juwann Winfree.
One player who I don’t think has been talked about enough is Allen Lazard. He is the guy who has the biggest shot of leading this Packers receiver core. Because the starters didn’t play this preseason all eyes were on the rookies. We can’t forget about Lazard.
“When do you expect Aaron Rodgers to retire? Also when/if you expect Jordan love to be cut/traded? And do you think the Packers will win a super bowl?” TWD Clips
Your guess is as good as mine for Rodgers retiring. He doesn’t even seem to know. He is going to reflect how he feels after each season. Considering he signed a extension this offseason I think it’s likely he plays at least 2-3 years but who knows.
Jordan is not going anywhere for the time being. If he got traded now I would be shocked. With the Packers not knowing how long till Rodgers retires they need to keep Love.
Packers winning superbowl? Yes.
“Just a Random Trivia Question, who leads the Packers in most Sacks in history?” codymoody5
Clay Matthews with 83.5 sacks. Before Clay Matthews broke the record it was Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila with 74.5 sacks. I actually randomly got to meet Biamila in 2012 when I was 15. Let me see if I can find the picture I posted on instagram 10 years ago…haha i found it.
“Will greenbay treat week one like their first preseason game again?” Jake Abfalder
I sure hope not. It was not fun to see the Packers get destroyed by the Saints to start the 2021 season. I remember lots of people around the NFL were questioning Aaron Rodgers ability to still play at a high level after that loss. And then he won MVP lol.
Week 1 should be a great matchup vs the Vikings. They are going to be much better than they were last year with new coach Kevin O’connell. It’s going to be very odd seeing Za’darius Smith rush Aaron Rodgers…
“Should the Pack look for another O lineman?” Matrix Jackson
After listening to Brian Gutekunst’s press conference today he sounds very confident in the players that we have on the offensive line. I think it really comes down to how long it’s going to take David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenknins to return.
If it takes longer than expected and the young offensive line isn’t holding up I would expect them to go out and find a cheap veteran if possible. But it seems like Bakhtiari and Jenkins should be back pretty soon (fingers crossed). So for now I think they should stay put.
“Who is someone we cut who you thought should of stayed?” Jack H
There were 3 guys that surprised me the most: Tyler Goodson, Juwann Winfree, and Jack Heflin.
I think Goodson is special. Luckily he is now on the practice squad alongside Patrick Taylor. Brian Gutekunst mentioned today the “emergence” of Amari Rodgers ability in the backfield as something that could help the Packers. He had 6 carries in the preseason for 36 yards. If Aaron Jones or AJ Dillon got injured during a game they could at least put Amari Rodgers back there. Second year RB Kylin Hill is starting the season on the PUP list but once he’s healthy they could elevate him to the roster.
When I was making my roster predictions I was on the fence about Juwann Winfree vs Samori Toure. I went with Winfree. Toure did show some flashes in the final preseason game. The Packers clearly think 7th rounder Toure has more potential than Winfree on this roster.
I thought Jack Heflin looked much better than he did last year. I was surprised rookie Jonathan Ford made it over him. The Packers must think Ford can develop into more because he was the worst graded defensive player on the packers defense this preseason (Per PFF). Jack Heflin made the practice squad so if there is ever an injury on the Dline they could call him up.
“Roster prediction in 5 years” Axoaz
Let’s see. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Quay Walker, Devonte Wyatt, Jordan Love. That’s all I have for now. Will let you know my full 53 man roster prediction for 2027 in August of 2027.
“Do u think the green bay Packers defense will be top 10 maybe top 6 defense in the NFL?” RJ
I think we will be top 5. We were the 10th best scoring D last year. We only had Jaire Alexander for about 4 games and now we have QUAY WALKER. Packers defense is about to light the league on fiiiiire.
“OPINION/GUESS. What Packers receiver will have the most Receiving yards this year?” Chad Baxter
I’m going to go with Allen Lazard. He is the most trusted receiver on this roster. If I had to pick another guy I’d go with Romeo Doubs. I wouldn’t be that surprised if Romeo finished as the top receiver.
“Do you think the packers offense will be more run centered this year?” In N Out
There is a good chance. Regardless the backs will be used a lot more especially in the receiving game.
Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon are 2 of the most dependable guys on the Packer’s offense. The Packers have the best backfield in the NFL.
