Just when you think you can’t like Aaron Jones anymore he comes out and says something that makes you like him even more.
Yesterday he spoke with some reporters and discussed why he took a pay cut to stay with the Packers earlier this off-season.
“Because I wanted to be here. You know, this is home for me. Those guys in the locker room are like brothers to me. The people upstairs, they believe in me. They’ve believed in me since I got here. That’s been huge for me. Like I said, this is home for me.
And it just made sense, you know, deal wise. You know the market for running backs, there was a huge gap between $16 million and Christian McCaffery who makes like $12 million. So I wouldn’t say a pay cut cause I’ve never made $11 million in my career so still most have ever made and still has me at second highest paid running back. It matched up with the market, and I didn’t want to be greedy.
I’m a team player, and I wanted to help the team. Help them get as many guys in here as we can so if that means giving up a little bit of money, I will.”
Aaron Jones has shown time and time again that he is a team player. I’ll never criticize someone for not taking a pay cut. Players should get what they are worth and be paid what they think they deserve. But it does make you respect someone even more who is willing to make a little less to help the team.
Jones is and has always been one of the most humble and likable guys since he came to Green Bay. Now with Rodgers gone he’s going to be even more important for this roster as someone to look to as a leader.
This off-season we’ve already seen him work to make Jordan Love feel comfortable. He worked out with him in California. He’s gone on lots of sports shows this off-season talking about the belief he has in Jordan Love. If you’re Jordan it has to be nice that you know someone has your back and believes in you. That goes a long way.
Aaron Jones is one of a kind.
